Customers didn't ask for many of the things that have been invented.
A customer may have good ideas about what he/she needs and may be able to
tell suppliers about those needs in terms the supplier understands.
The wise customer will listen to what potential suppliers can suggest. By working together they
might develop solutions which are, in fact, inventions.
A supplier may have an idea for a new service or product. The supplier
that innovates and takes market share is lucky. You can improve on luck by involving
customers in the service or product design and testing. The idea of automatic (fool-proof)
cameras came from studying what customers did with their cameras - by looking at what was
in the developing tray. |
