Why are we in business?
We are in business to make money ("maximise shareholder return in the
short and the long term").
The question is how? By what method?
Deming taught
the Japanese to believe the purpose of the organisation is to be the world's most
efficient provider of whatever service or product it offers. As an organisation improves
in that direction, profits follow.
The evidence for the value of this belief is compelling.
The method required to 'be the most efficient provider of a service or product' is
based on an understanding of the organisation as a
system. It cannot be achieved through 'command and
control' management. |
